Introduction

This is a post and short video to introduce students to Moodle. The video explains the type of computer accounts student will use while here at SETU and also guides users through some of the basics of how to use Moodle. It also outlines what users can expect when they log into Moodle and some of the support contacts when they have a technical issue with either their SETU email account, a technical issue with Moodle, their password or their registration details.

What is a Learning Management System

Learning management systems are software applications that allow lecturing staff members to deliver academic content and manage their delivery of the course content across a wide range of modules and programmes. We use a system called Moodle here on the Waterford Campus in SETU

How do SETU students access Moodle

You won't need any special software to use Moodle all you need is a web browser.  Students can log in to Moodle either through the Moodle link on the SETU homepage or by typing moodle.wit.ie directly into your web browser. We recommend using either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.

SETU (Waterford Campus) Username

All students will have an SETU username with the following format studentnumber@wit.ie (i.e. 12345678@wit.ie). This is used to log into Moodle or other Computer Systems, Office 365, etc

SETU (Waterford Campus) Email

All students will have an SETU email account, Login here. It's a Google account, and it has the following format studentnumber@mail.wit.ie (i.e. 12345678@mail.wit.ie). This is used to log into SETU student email only. Please note that SETU Staff can only communicate with SETU students via their SETU email and not a personal email address, please use your SETU email on all correspondence with SETU departments. This email address is your email in Moodle and you can't change it

Note:

It's important that all student register for the "Password Self Service Reset' facility, we advise all student to do this as soon as possible, it's a one-time registration process that allow you the independence to reset your password, this will be very useful on weekend's or late night's when you need to submit assignments but you can remember your password.

Moodle

Moodle is SETU's Learning Management System, all students will need to be registered student to have access to Moodle and Modules inside Moodle.

How do I access my modules

To access modules inside Moodle you will need to be registered in the student registration system for your programme. Please contact registration.wd@setu.ie for more detail. When you register, Moodle will import your module information from the student registration system into Moodle. Click into the Icon or name displayed to access the course content for each module.
